'The Forbidden Education (La Educación Prohibida)'. Film screening and debate
London. Nov 2012. "The Forbidden Education" (La Educación Prohíbida) is an independent documentary released in 2012. The film documents diverse alternative education practices, presenting a different aspect of education in the school context and outside of it that challenge traditional paradigms about schooling.
The event was presented by the Radical Education Forum and LAPE. They presented clips of the film and opened a discussion with the people who participated of the debate.
Issues of policy and politics, government agendas and the possibility of thinking schooling from a different perspective were addressed. The debate went on to address how to change the dominant ideas about education and move towards a political and social debate to transform the whole system.

London, Oct 2012. The IOE's Latin American SIG presented the seminar Poets, Pedagogy, and Community-Based Research in Nicaragua:Understanding Poetry as a Tool for Critical Literacy in Schools by Lauren Ila Misiaszek.
This was a special event, part of the LACW 2012, and presented an experience of popular education in Nicaragua, within the context of a national literacy strategy.
